On Tuesday February 12, 2013, a group of seven Cooley Law students participated as a guest team at the Macomb County Bar Association v. Oakland County Bar Association’s annual athletic challenge. This year’s competition was a dodge ball tournament. Dawn Young, Karen Babel, Anthony Hines, Sierra Hill, Steven Braun, John Case, and Ulises Macias Robles showed up at Oakbrook Elementary School in Sterling Heights ready to bring the heat. Unfortunately, the Cooley team did not take the tournament, but they were very happy to participate as the only students at the event.

Every year for over almost 15 years, the Young Lawyers Sections of the MCBA and OCBA challenge each other to an athletic competition for honor, respect, bragging rights, and the coveted “Cross-County Cup” trophy. Traditionally, on an alternating basis, one Bar Association selects a challenge and location. The host then invites the other Bar Association to participate. This year the tournament included guest teams from the Young Lawyers Section of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association and the Cooley student team.

The event raised just under $500 for charity. Pursuant to the game rules, the winning team got to select their charity of choice. The OCBA won and chose the Boys and Girls Club of South Oakland.
