Voluntary Income Tax Assistance

By Thomas Hagen
     ABA/LSD VITA Chair, Tampa Bay

V.I.T.A., what is it? Per irs.gov, “The volunteer income tax assistant program is a voluntary tax preparation free to people who make below $51,000 per year, its initiative is to help the underserved whether a person has a disability, is elderly, or has limited English skills.” The ABA/LSD and the United Way will be providing an information seminar Wednesday, October 16, 2013, from 12:00 pm to 1:00pm, in room 259 at the Tampa Bay Campus.

Participating in the VITA program is a great way to give back to the community, get experience dealing with clients on a one-on-one and face-to-face setting, and build name recognition within the community.  For students that have an interest in tax law, this is a great resume builder and for those that are not sure, this is a volunteer program and looks good as community service on any resume.  This is a great way to help the community and Cooley – Tampa Bay earn recognition within the community.  Sign up on the TWEN page, watch for the fliers and tell your classmates.  Come for the seminar and enjoy pizza and soft drinks.
